The photo shows a rebuild of my toilet and the pluming in the background. Even on this small scale there is little ‘local’ and a lot ‘global’. The materials used come mostly from big companies. The watertubes and connectors are form a global manufacturer from Belgium (Henco). The toilet comes from a big German brand (Geberit). The board material to be used is from a French multinational (Saint-Gobain). The wood will probably come from Scandinavia, Etc. The involvement of the globalized economy in building construction is huge. I buy what is on the market and that mostly means buying form the big companies and big retailers. They have or a monopoly or just the most efficient system or both.
