Module 3 - compulsory Exercise: Livability Criteria 1. Which are your top livability criteria? K: Job opportunities e: environment m: recreation facilities a: climate n: safety Not specifically on the list, but I think walkability is extremely important 2. Why do we live where we live? Name the place you live and provide 5 reasons why you live there. Those reasons may not be related to the official livability criteria. Order them with the most important at the top of your list. To support your statements you are asked to provide one or more images from your area of residence, that describe the reasons you selected. I live in Grand Cayman. I was born in the UK, but chose to live in Grand Cayman as it meets the livability criteria in question 1. 3. To what extend does your own place of residence fulfill your ideal livability criteria? 85%. Sometimes it’s too hot, I’d prefer to have seasons. It’s mostly safe – nowhere is perfect. Provide also a general livability score for your city, using the same scale (1-100). 85% 4. What would you change? The island meets the criteria I set out pretty well. I would look at other areas like walkability, improving the waste management on island, creating bike lanes and also a social housing scheme for both Caymanians and residents. There should be greater integration on island that could be improved through place making and sharing ideas aswel as spaces. 5. Why do we move? In this last part of the exercise, we want you to name three places that you would select to move in case you decided to change a place of residence. In addition, provide us with 5 qualities of these places that played an important role during your decision process. Order them with the most important at the top of your list. 1. Oahu a. Climate b. Recreation c. Environment - Proximity to the ocean, volcanos, waterfalls d. City scape – shops, bars, restaurants e. Perceived safety 2. Barcelona a. Climate b. Culture c. Recreation d. City scape – shops, bars, restaurants e. Environment - Proximity to both mountains and beaches 3. Whistler a. Climate / seasons b. Recreation c. Perceived safety d. Quality homes e. Environment - Proximity to mountains I recognize that job opportunities is not on my list, which is why I have opted to not actually move to any of those places - so far.
