1.Top 5 Livability criteria- Based on the parameters mentioned for the livability criteria, the top 5 most important criteria are- i. Economy-Economy is the most important criteria,as the employment opportunities in a country,city are dependent on stable economy.Money which is our main source of livelihood, is dependent on the business standards,international connectivity,profits and GDP of the nation ,which will influence the foreign investors and thereby create more job opportunities and livelihood. ii. Safety-With the recent ISIS attacks in Paris and Brussels , the threat of migrant citizens from terror affected countries will always make the citizens of that country feel unsafe.Safety maybe for woman's,girls,children's are the most mandatory things for parents .Stringent government protocols for the immigrants are important for nations safety and security.Life is the most precious gift given to humans,who wants to die!! iii. Housing- Food,clothing and shelter as we say are important for a livelihood.Affordable housing in the form of tenants either in rent or lease basis or with affordable purchase value are important for the citizens who work for the nations economy.Without housing , it will be very difficult for person to work ,commute in that city. iv. Infrastructure-Well planned infrastructure like roads, commuting services like public transport,hospitals,market,airports ,trams ,buses, shops are necessary for day to day activities of citizen. v. Environment-Air and Water are the two basic elements our body is comprised of.Without sufficient oxygen and pure water we are bound to die and so is the humanity.Polluted air and water not only results to heart threatening diseases like asthma,cancers and even death. 2.Why do we live where we live? I live in Kasarvadavli in Thane a satellite town to Mumbai city,India.Born and brought up in Thane i spent my first 19 years in Thane.The next 5 years in Mumbai and today again in Thane .However,My internships and my workplace in 3 years of my career were all in Mumbai.Firstly,Mumbai ranks in top tier for business opportunity,employment ,international connectivity ,education and economic point of view.However ,Mumbai fails in livability criteria like Environment,Climate and Housing .On the other hand , my residence has been in Thane due to six main livability criteria.Climate,Affordable housing , Infrastructure, Safety, Culture and Recreational facilities. Mumbai in spite of public facilities available, due to haphazard planning and over-stressed infrastructure has not only affected the climate but also the lifespan of Mumbaikars. Thane on the other hand boasts of seven to eight lakes within the city ,with a huge cultural background of Marathi culture,my mother tongue, ,which creates a sense of belonging towards the citizens.Majority of population in Thane is Maharashtrians ,there are also mixed caste people.However, the sense of belonging is evident in Thane.Any woman can commute in Thane city till midnight 2:00 am.The cultural festivals are celebrated with full enthusiasm and public participation.Maybe there are no job opportunities,no IT parks,still i like to stay in Thane. 3.To what extend does your own place of residence fulfill your ideal livability criteria? Based on the livable criteria parameters in the first question, the rating on a scale of 1-100 for Kasarvadavli,Thane is as follows- ⦁ Economy- 40/100 -Kasarvadavli ,My current residence, is located far away from Mumbai about 2 hours.Mumbai on the other hand has Economy rating of 70/100.The reason being that most all the people in Thane,especially on Ghodbunder road ,are outsiders like North Indians,South Indians who have selected Thane city for residence for its wonderful climate as compared to Mumbai.Hence,even though Thane is 2 hours away from Mumbai,it has no economy or job prospects as such ,as mostly residential complexes are found on Ghodbunder road.There maybe few working offices like the one GCORP,IT complex near Hypercity mall ,small business like motorbike showrooms like DSK Benelli,Ford,Bmw,Das Auto,but Kasarvadavli is as such not a work hub. ⦁ Safety-80/100- The thriving complexes ,6 to 7 malls on Ghodbunder Road,Kasarvadavli,Thane the inhouse infrastructure inside the complexes like 24hrs gymnasium, playgrounds,football and cricket courts makes the parents ensured that children's have all recreational facilities inside the complex itself.Hence,the architectural organization of in house recreational facilities has ensured safety both to the children's and parents. ⦁ Housing-70/100-Current Housing complexes in Thane are being constructed using prefab construction,metal scaffolds,fire chutes,greener materials like Fly Ash bricks.Also ,before sanctioning of the building ,TMC has made mandatory solar panels,solar heaters ,STP plants,due to which the current architecture are adopting greener technology.Also, the climate is serene,which itself attracts the buyer.However, the increased urbanization and real estate price rise ,has resulted to 2bhk price Rs1.5 crore,which makes the middle class economy unable to purchase these properties.So, Thane especially the properties on Ghodbunder road even are catchy for the property buyers ,for some buyers it's still a dream!! ⦁ Infrastructure-50/100- Thane boasts of thriving shopping malls,lakes,theaters and food courts.The newly planned Metro Plan-line 4 from Wadala,Mumbai is bound to connect the two cities within an hour or few minutes.Infrastructure in Thane for its full fledged citizen satisfaction has years to be witnessed.The potholes in Rainy season on the roads and no maintenance of roads has resulted into pure Infrastructure as of now.Also, infrastructure like electricity and water is still not full fledged as many areas in Thane city exhibits load -shading during the day time for 3 to 4 hours.Speaking of the outskirts of Thane,like Kasarvadavli,my current residence, the lack of Water supply line from TMC(Thane municipal Corporations ) in spite of earnest requests ,seems to be unanswered.Hence,the cooperative housing societies of each complexes like my own housing complex has mutually decided to book a water tank every two times a day ,by water tankers through trucks.Also ,the surety of clean water from Water tankers is still a mystery!!Hence,Thane badly lacks in providing proper electricity and water infrastructure in spite of having so many recreational facilities for it s citizens. ⦁ Environment-95/100-Speaking of Climate unlike Mumbai,Thane has cooler winter and warmer summer as compared to Mumbai which is hot and humid during summers and less cooler than Thane during winter.Also ,the lack of anthropogenic pollutants released by vehicular patterns in atmosphere, Thane has clean ,fresh air.The reason for this being the evapotranspiratuon and moisture retention by soil , carbon sequestration by Planters along the footpath of Thane city.Also the proximity of the lake right in the heart of the city and at different areas in Thane,results in heat absorption during hot summer days, thereby lowering the Urban heat island effect in Thane.As compared to the heart of Thane city,Yeoor hills, Waghbil,Kasarvadli, has the coolest climate both in winter and summer.Surrounding Sanjay Gandhi National Park has resulted these localities to be cooler as compared to heart of the city.
