This photo was taken at work primarily for a marketing reason, as you can see the 1-800-Got-Junk work truck. It was taken in a scrap metal yard in downtown Toronto. In this scrap metal yard are various pieces of metal from all over the world. This is where building materials end up at the end of their life cycle. Toronto is a rapidly developing city, therefore a lot of buildings are getting demolished. This generates a lot of waste as a lot of material is not reused. It ends up in metal yards or land fills like this one in the picture, and then sent off to other countries around the world. The whole process is global, this material which was used for the buildings in the first place where from other places of the world, and then after the material has been used, it is sent back to other places. In the background you can see a high-rise building being built, this is another reason why I chose this photo. That high-rise is being built with building materials that most likely did not originate in Canada. Canada gets a lot of materials from USA.
