- Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? Cairo, Egypt. (Place of residence) 1- accumulated buildings with no gaps. 2- Main roads that tend to have high traffic and so higher temperature. 3- Factories close to the Nile River, not only polluting the city and increasing temperature but also polluting the river 4- Very few almost negligible green areas, especially in the down town zone Belbes, Sharqia (Nearby rural area) 1- Very high rate of green areas. 2- Small lakes every once in a while. 3- Canals passing through. 4- High distance between buildings. 5- Low buildings. Cairo is the capital, and is among 3 metropolises in Egypt (Cairo, Alexandria, Giza) You can feel the difference in temperature when you travel from Cairo to Alexandria (Coastal City). Where Alexandria lies on The Mediterranean Sea, the sea seems to cool the temperature down and the existence of wind makes the place much more livable. But as soon as you move away from the sea to a place of factories or to the downtown part you will realize the increase in the temperature. When you travel back to Cairo you feel the difference, almost no wind, you would feel thicker air, higher humidity. - Which are the measures you would propose? 1- Compulsory percentage of green area accompanying any new built house. 2- Moving factories outside the city. 3- Certain amount of green areas around a neighborhood. 4- Decreasing or distributing the car movement properly to avoid increase in temperature in certain areas. 5- Make proper gaps between buildings according to their heights and sizes. - Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? Hardly but a big garbage space was converted to A park with the help of the UNESCO, to be considered as the green heart of Cairo
