The five most livable cities that I know 1. Weimar, Germany 2. Zürich, Switzerland 3. Karlsruhe, Germany 4. Münster, Germany 5. Cape Town, South Africa Characteristics that make a city liveable 1. Green areas and open spaces 2. Space for human interaction 3. Job opportunities 4. Moderate temperature 5. Bicycle-friendliness Zurich and my own characteristics for liveable cities Zurich offers many green spaces, in particular around the lake and on top of the hills surrounding the city. Some new urban areas like the industrial quarter include space for experimentation, new ideas, arts and meeting other inhabitants oft he city. The job opportunities are good as in all over Switzerland. The temperature is also moderate. In particular, near the water or near green areas, the temperatures are lower in warm summer nights which is more comfortable. In general, the city is bicycle friendly. Nevertheless, some improvements could be made at specific junctions and bike lanes.
