1. Which are your top livability criteria; Housing, Environment, Transportation, Culture, International, Connectivity 2. Why do we live where we live? I live in Amsterdam because... the roads are excellent for all users, especially bikers the people are curious and easy to speak to there is something for everyone from different socio-economic classes lovely street atmosphere! you can also easily reach a peaceful part of the city or the nature its small and well structured The following photo shows the biking culture/convenient transportation and the pleasant street atmosphere. 3. To what extend does your own place of residence fulfil your ideal livability criteria? In terms of transportation, environment, culture, international connectivity, Amsterdam is aligned very well with my livability criteria. The streets and the traffic rules are made for pedestrians and bikers, which clearly reflect their mentality of reducing the use of cars. Public transportation, which includes tram, metros, ferries, buses and trains, is clean and well-organized with quality personnel service and pay-per-distance system. Currently underwater metro is being built to connect the city with the North zone. The environment is very clean; the Dutch tap water is amongst the best in the world and the air quality is also very high. The Dutch culture and its international connectivity are heavily intertwined with one another. Because of their internationality, they are curious and open to discover new cultures and prioritize travelling. They take on new trends (social, technological...) quickly since they are in open to being inspired, and are able enrich it. Housing can be difficult sometimes in this city especially because it is small, but in comparison to the other cities of the similar levels, it it still at a high standard. There are not that many without a home, and a wide array of accommodation options with a wide range of prices and government assistance is given to the certain group of people in need. 4. What would you change? I would enforce more recycling initiatives, do more awareness raising around and search for ways to insource fresh food. For such a country that is heavily relying on imports it is highly advisable to find a way to be self-sustainable in order to reduce its emission levels. Another thing I would consider is the expansion of the city itself because the rise of tourism and globalization is making the city feel more and more crowded, causing conflict of interest between locals and tourists. 5. Why do we move? Culture; Accessibility; Living costs; Recreational options; Population/size. If I ever do move today or tomorrow, I would like to move to Stockholm in Sweden, Seville in Spain, or Philadelphia of the United States. Although there was a selection criteria mentioned above, I believe that each destinations have a distinct things that I am looking for. Sweden has a cultural mentality and lifestyle that I can learn a lot from. I am interested in their social mindset and respect their high environmental standards. Seville is another one in my list because I love the strong sense of culture and traditional festivities. I enjoy exploring their deep history that shows it the customs, religion, gastronomy, architecture and most importantly, their language. I love how Philadelphia is walkable in comparison to a lot of US cities and how biking and skateboarding is one of the main ways of transport. The city's architecture is beautiful and the structure of the city is easy to learn, with the centre city in the middle and distinct neighbourhoods surrounding it.
