Among the cities I have visited and/or lived in, I consider Zurich, Tokyo, Barcelona, London, Washington D.C. among the most liveable ones. These cities are considered liveable because they offer walkability, which promotes physical activity for all of its citizens. They also have a good public transportation system and roads which reduce dependence on cars and enable cycling throughout the city. These cities additionally consist of good hospitals and clinics dispersed around the city, along with good schools available to all. Among the most important factors, these cities offer green, public spaces and gardens that enhance citizens’ health and wellbeing by promoting physical activity, connection with nature and social interactions, strengthening the communities. They additionally provide environments that are quite enriched with the local culture and ways of life. I currently live in London which I believe, is a quite liveable city due to the many characteristics it has which are listed above. Nonetheless, I believe its liveability could be further enhanced if crime rates were further reduced, if citizens were more aware of the impacts of their behaviours in the city that diminish this city’s liveability, resilience and sustainability, and if the city and its life were more affordable.
