The picture shows one of the most divine pilgrimage location of Hindu religion, namend Har-ki-pauri on the banks of river Ganga in Haridwar, in the hill state of Uttarakhand. Haridwar is an organically urbanised city, with a few thousand temples and shrines. The image shown here depicts the following 'visible' information:- 1. Water forms an essential part of the culture of the city and the Hindu religion at large. 2. Multi-storey/highrise concrete buildings stand in the midst of the hills; and similar type of construction is a general practice in the city. 3. A large number of pilgrims and tourists are gathered in a small space/ghat which has very little safety arrangements, considering that the river flows at a huge pace. 4. Advertisement panels/hoardings have been planced in a haphazard manner. 'Invisible' information:- 1. The highrise concrete structures carry huge loads and have a poor impact on the local ground conditions. 2. The congested builing construction has left little or no public space in the city. The first invisible information can inform the stakeholders to built in a more sustainable manner, emphasizing vernacular built forms and local construction materials.
