Uploaded on 2018-12-04 by Zouna Meades
This picture was taken in Bloemfontein, South Africa of a public square called "Hoffman Plein". Visible from this picture is that it is early in the morning as can be seen by the shadows, and Autumn/Winter based on the lack of leaves on the tree. There are a number of stalls selling a variety of goods, a lady cleaning the streets and a number of people setting up their local business for the day. There are some posters, hinting at an organised petition (called a strike in South Africa) pertaining to jobs. Furthermore, there is some fixed installation urban design elements such as benches and umbrella type shading areas with some urbanscape in the background. Invisible from this image is poverty and inequality due to a lack of employment, furthermore, the lack of access to amenities for formal trade at areas where people congregate as this is the main public transportation hub of the city. The latter can be used to determine and design areas for formal trade to protect the vendors and patrons in their daily commute.
