This is an example of a newly constructed building deep in the rural parts of Kenya. Most people are trying to merge the localised construction process with the globalised system. The materials used are excavated soil from the site which also provides level ground on the very slopy area, timber from the same land and smooth yellow mud finish from a nearby river. Despite this sustainable way of building, there is still preassure from society to embrace the western method of construction thus the addition of iron sheets imported all the way from china. This is not to say this should be discouraged since it prolongs the building's life by protecting the walls from rain better than the traditional thatched roof. In the spirit of embracing new ideas from the globalised economy, this kind of building provides room for a cheaper and more sustainable way of living here in rural Kenya.
