I live in Atlanta, GA, USA, which has for the last 5 years been in the top 5 places to relocate to in the United States. The city has seen a steady increase in population over the last decade. For this reason, I believe that the migration of people has become one of the city's most important flows to study. Secondly, Atlanta is the only major city in the state and one of the few large-sized cities in the American South. In tandem with the population boom, the city is densifying while also spreading out farther into the hinterlands. Land (density, sprawl) is an important factor in the city's stocks and flows. Lastly, the population and construction boom correlate to industrial and commercial growth, most notably the opening of new factories and headquarters such as Mercedes Benz. The flows of new capital in the city has affected land use and inspired migration. Understanding these stocks and flows would help to manage resources better, considering the area experienced a drought a few years ago; prevent sprawl; and make better government decisions regarding transportation, housing, and urban planning.
