Habitats of a certain neighborhood don’t feel safe when they walk in their neighborhood in the evening and during the night. You are working for the local government and want to solve this problem through improvement of the public spaces. How would you start-up a Citizen Design Science project? Steps I would take to engage citizens and address this problem through a Citizen Design Science project: 1. Gather the community individuals together and have an open discussion session to help them understand the project at hand and also understand their concerns at a broad level 2. Provide basic training on data collection methods and provide information on how to enter data collected, and through a brainstorming session, come up with basic factors to consider (vegetation, infrastructure, etc.) 3. Have citizens measure daily activities and usage of various mobility forms within the community 4. Have citizens identify and map various other factors contributing to feeling of lack of safety 5. Collate data and hold discussions on observations and steps forward.
