1. Check the temperature differences in US cities In the Climate Central website, we can see that there is a big difference between the city and the rural zone in the USA. For example, the top 10 cities with the most intense summer urban heat islands over the past 10 years are: Las Vegas (7.3°F) Albuquerque (5.9°F Denver (4.9°F) Portland (4.8°F) Louisville (4.8°F) Washington, D.C. (4.7°F) Kansas City (4.6°F) Columbus (4.4°F) Minneapolis (4.3°F) Seattle (4.1°F) I find is just incredible and not really good for the city. 2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? I don't manage to make two pictures. But I live in Strasbourg. It's the seventh biggest city in France. It is too a very important city in Europe. So there are a lot of cars or bus. This city is too known for the beautiful light in winter. Contrary to Strasbourg, as you can see in the picture, the rural zone is very green. There is a lot of wine. And it's really calm. So, I think that there are many reasons that contribute to the UHI effect of the city like the population, the energy used and so forth.. 3. Which are the measures you would propose? If I could take part in the decision-making process of an initiative related to the UHI effect, the measures that I would propose in order to reduce it and provide a more livable environment to the citizens would be limited the energy. For exemple, I would propose to reduce the light in the city at night. I would reduce the cars in the center. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? I know about policies in my community that are planned to reduce the UHI effect, that there are a lot of roads for bicycles in all the city and pedestrian zone in the center. The visible results are that cars don't come in the center, people take often the bicycles in order to go to work or in school and anywhere.
