There are three easily perceived stocks and flows in the city of Porto Alegre. The first one is food. The city does not produces enough food for all its inhabitants and so it needs to import food from other places. The second stock and flow easily perceived is people. The city is the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, its population is around 1.4 million people and it keeps increasing as people keep moving to the city. As a consequence from the movement of people the third stock and flow that I chose is density. Because of the increase of its population some areas of the city are rapidly changing. Houses are being replaced by high buildings. The result of these stocks and flows is that the city need to adapt to the changes. The increase of population creates new demand for transportation, food, energy... If the city manage to adapt to the new reality Porto Alegre can become a very resilient city.
