The picture is taking downtown Aarhus. As the picture show Aarhus is a pretty green and spacious city. (I can only choose to upload one picture and my city is not available) 2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? I was not able to find any data on UHI from Aarhus. I could find some data from Copenhagen, where they registered 12 degrees Celsius higher surface temperatures. But Aarhus is a much smaller city and less dense. And in both cases, the climate is cold in the winter and not very hot in the summer. In Copenhagen, they concluded that it might become a problem on certain days in particularly hot and dry summers, but overall not a huge problem. These problems I would except to be even less in Aarhus. So, in terms of temperature comfort I don’t see the big problems, but that does not mean that the problem of higher pollution is not there. 3. Which are the measures you would propose? We don’t have huge UHI problems in Aarhus. But there is one place with particularly many gasoline and diesel driven buses and trains collected in a small area. One measure would be to either replace these vehicles or spread them out across the city making a less dense UHI area. 4. Is UHI effect concerning policy making in your area? There is not to my knowledge or research any policies or measures to reduce UHI. I found only one article in a local newspaper mentioning lower UHI as a positive side effect of greening roofs in the city. But it was merely in passing and not occupying the central theme.
