Hi everybody! My name is Mahnaz. I’m from Iran and I live in Karaj. I usually go to my university using two different routes. Route 1 Mode of Transportation Time Distance walk 4 min 350 m taxi 11 min 3 km taxi 31 min 9.6 km taxi 5 min 1.5 km walk 3 min 220 m Total time 54 min Total distance walked 570 m Route 2 Mode of Transportation Time Distance Driving personal car 19 min 9.3 km Total time 19 min Total distance walked 0 Unfortunately, none of these routes even come close to a high quality route. I choose them because public transportation is really weak in my town and I choose to go by taxi or personal car based on the time I have to get to the university. If I have more time, I go by taxi so that I don’t take a car just for one person (me!). I’d preferred that my town had more walkable routes to my university, or trains and tram that run with electricity, but I am bound with limitations when choosing transportation types. Both of these routes pass green areas like city parks and gardens in some parts, but I pass them as I’m driving my car or sitting in a taxi. The only part of these routes that I can enjoy is the last part of route 1, when I walk by the university’s walls in a medium width, uncrowded street. These walls are short in height and you can see trees and bushes of the university from above the walls. It is quiet, peaceful and even aromatic in some seasons of the year. I wish there were more pedestrian ways like this one on my way to university, because I actually enjoy walking.
