1. Five most liveable Cities I know: Copenhagen Melbourne Geneva Sydney Auckland 2.I think a liveable city must (in order) be sustainable, provide opportunity (economic and educational), ensure infrastructure, adaptable climate, support community. 3. My lovely city is Auckland. It is increasingly seen on liveable cities' lists. I believe it is sustainable and New Zealand is often seen as innovative, technology driven, clean and green. I'm not sure that makes us entirely sustainable or that those labels are entirely true. We import. A lot. We are an island after all. Although we are equally self sufficient in many ways. We are driven some what by the environment but central government needs to drive support for the environment, recycling sustainable business and ecological practices. Auckland does provide amazing opportunities that support a vibrant lifestyle that is community driven, diverse and cultural. Opportunity is limited dues to a smaller economy and population - although immigration is massive and our trade ties increasing. Infrastructure lets us down. We are centralised with a single and small CBD which causes chaos on roads. New Zealander's love cars - not sustainable or environmentally friendly. However we have poor rail networks and limited bus services. Immigration causes high demand for housing which cannot be met - this needs addressing as houses are well and truly unaffordable. The infrastructure too, cannot cope with demand. Our climate is pretty stable with little extremes. However, we are close to Antarctica and slim - close to the sea everywhere. So with climate change and many low lying areas we are vulnerable and this should be addresses. Finally community... We have such diverse cultures here and many which ensure great community spirit, particularly in our smaller neighbourhoods. It's a great attribute to have. All in all immigration and lack of infrastructure along with extreme cost of living make Auckland a costly alternative but balance with a great lifestyle and it's not so bad!
