1- In reference to the temperature differences from the Climate Central Website, it can be noted that the highest temperature difference has been in Las Vegas can be further noted in the following images that represent the city's urban part (image 1) and the rural housing areas around Nevada (image2). It can be evident from the pictures below the evidence of greenery in the countryside which is absent in the city. Also, the city usually has more which leads to more heat trap . Other factors also lead to this conclusion by causing higher UHI to be developed. 2- I live in Doha-Qatar which is considered to be a desert city and with that being said recent evidence suggests that desert cities, unlike cities in temperate zones, often show a UHI effect, inverting the urban heat island phenomenon, with the result that specific urban areas appear colder than suburban areas during the daytime. Therefore, this is one of the factors and major ones that affect human health and comfort for citizens. In the gulf also, the high rise of populations along with the high temperature rises, high rates of health problems and issues arise. Not only that it is also evident with an increase in summertime peak energy demand , air conditioning costs, air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, heat-related illness and mortality, and water quality. To refer to my neighborhood iimage and the main city image , I may say that most expats moving in to Qatar prefer to live in the city center where it is highly congested, all companies and business are located there and mainly all the city's activities are mainly centralized in this area. That's one cause of the higher temperatures in the city. However, in my neighborhood, the surface reflectiveness is more, more cooling is allowed to occur and even more vegetation is found which allows heat absorbtion and cooler temperatures away from the urban center. (refer to the images below) 3- I would highly recommend the following: The use of cooling roofs Embedding Roof gardens/ green roofs The awareness of vegetative planning and more thoughtful planning Building away from the center Reduce the reliance on energy consupmtion Planting Trees urban gardening 4- Yes there are policies for the UHI in Qatar as a foundation here in Qatar known as Qatar Foundation (education foundation) has worked on a research-based project to analyse, understand and propose solutions for the UHIs in Qatar which in terms came out with policies and demands to prevent or limit this dangerous phenomenon. oha faced a huge urban development and urban expansion in a short period of time. The modern urban designs in the city and the material used in the construction have changed the land surface albedo and the Land Surface Temperature (LST) in city. With this urban expansion, the Urban Heat Island phenomenon has become more noticeable between the urban center and the suburbs. Examples include: Changing of landscape in the city due to the construction of roads and buildings has increased the surface temperature, as paving and building material replaces the Earth's natural surface causing surface compactness. Surfaces that were once pervious moist have become impermeable and dry. Open land and vegetation are replaced by buildings, roads, and other infrastructures and surfaces with high heat capacity, which impacted and created microclimates. This impact is due to the fact that many surfaces and asphalt absorb heat during the day and releases it during the night.
