Here, I think, the impact of our dependency on infrastructures especially transportation is visible on a urban-rural scale. The transportation network is forced to go along the valley, which is a geological/geophysical frame, and the buildings go along the streets and train lines. Another think I noticed, is that radio towers (infrastructure for digital TV etc.; and mobile (data) communication) are usually positioned on mountains, where there are some, but what about cities, which are build on flat grounds?
