I live in Panchkula a satellite town of Chandigarh. Q1 Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? The main UHI effects are from: 1.Hard Landscapes that includes parkings and pedestrian tracks. 2.Pollution of vehicles 3.Heat Island effect due to extensive use of air conditioning as the city is in Tropical region. 4.Lack of Green cover There is about difference of 2-3degree of temperature between the city area and rural area on account of Heat island effect. 3. Which are the measures you would propose? Following can be proposed to reduce the UHI effect. 1.Tree plantation in the parking areas and along the pedestrians. 2.The pedestrian movement csn be a mix of soft and hard landscapes. 3.Incorporating water bodies in the open areas. 4.Alternative technology in place of contemporary air conditioning systems. 5.Encourage public transport use to reduce no. of private vehicle in the city. 6.Electric Vehicles to be introduced in place of Petrol of diesel as alternative.
