I have lived in Melbourne and in Sydney. They both make the Monicle top 5 list and the Economist list. Melbourne is okay. Sydney has no right to be on the list. Australia culturally has an unlikely hatred for cyclists, and a strong car culture informed by the likes of Los Angeles. In Australia there are now hundreds of kilometres of fencing in urban areas to stop people crossing the road. My top 5 are: Copenhagen Amsterdam and most any other city in the Netherlands Portland Berlin Which I selected based on my own knowledge before going here https://www.wired.com/2015/06/copenhagenize-worlds-most-bike-friendly-cities/ Livability is: walkability cyclibility being treated as an adult (read: not Australia) exploreability intrigueability. Wollongong (where I live) fails. Wollongong, like other Australia cities needs to Copenhagenize http://www.copenhagenize.com/
