The location in question is New York City. Three important stocks are: tourist attractions, land, and the NYC Subway System. Three important flows are: tourists, imported food, energy. The stocks: Tourist attractions are a major part of the city which attract visitors from all over the world, which then boosts the economy of the city. These attractions are part of the city and cannot be removed. Land is very important stock because NYC is comprised of islands, which leaves the city very susceptible to rising tides caused by global warming. The city cannot survive without this land. The threat of global warming could greatly reduce the city and its population. The subway system is a very important stock because it is the part of the city that allows the inhabitants to travel around it, which helps to stimulate the economy. Without the subway, the city ceases to function, as demonstrated after hurricane sandy. The flows: Tourists comprise the flow that is caused by the stock of tourist attractions. This flow is a very large part of the city's economy. Food is necessary for survival, it is very difficult to cultivate enough food for a city, in a city, which means most of it flows into the city via import. Without this resource, most of the city would die. Energy is food for the city itself. This is produced outside of the city and brought in to power all the various functions of the city (subway, buildings, street lamps, etc.). In the future, vertical hydroponic farming could greatly decrease the required flow of imported food, turning this flow into a stock. Clean energy solutions such as solar panels and tidal energy could greatly decrease the city's need for outside energy. Under the current administration, tourism in the states could decrease drastically, which would cause visible changes to the city's economy.
