Stock and Flows – Juba, South Sudan 1.Stock and Flows of People in the City South Sudan gained its independence in 2011 after many years of civil war. Juba, the capital city has witnesses an increase in its population due to people returning to their homes after many years living abroad. Flow of business people and merchants delivering their goods to the city is constantly be seen. The flow of people in the city will constantly be moving in the future due to strong ties that the city of Juba needs with its neighboring countries. 2.Stock and Flows of Food in the City With an increase population, food shortage is another flow that can be noticed. People used to farm locally in moderate amount that is sufficient for the city. Today, majority of food supplies are imported from Uganda through ground transportation. This flow of food can change in the future when South Sudan develop its agriculture sectors. 3.Stock and Flows of Density in the City City of Juba has a very low density with typical housing of one story building made out of mud and straws. This led the one million population of the city to be spread out in unsustainable way. This stock is constantly changing due to unprecedented level of population coming and leaving the city. In the future, densification the city by building mid rise buildings will make the city more sustainable.
