Step 1: List the five most liveable cities that you know, based on your own experience and judgment, placing the most liveable city at the top of the list. • Geneva • Vienna • Florence • Brussels • Rotterdam Step 2: Describe in your own words five characteristics that according to your opinion make a city liveable. Order them placing the most important at the top of the list. * • Safety and stability • Level of education/ availability • Infrastructure & road safety • Recreational space (parks etc) • Connections with other international/local cities Step 3: Describe the status of your own city in terms of the five characteristics that you listed above. Propose how your city should/could be transformed in relation to these characteristics in order to be more sustainable Enschede has several parks, however the city centre lacks a central park. Infrastructure and road safety are really high, infrastructure itself is of a very high quality; separate bike lanes, bus lanes, and car lanes. Road safety is high because of those separate lanes, however crossings can sometimes be dangerous. Enschede has poor connections with international cities, except for a few German ones, it does have an airport close by with some international flights. The connections with local cities is good, busses, trains and taxis are available for that. Enschede has one university (picture), various colleges and several lower education facilities. There is a plethora of high schools and primary schools, so education is available on all levels, however the university does not have a globally known name. General safety and stability is really high, nothing ever happens here.
