My own idea of CDS project is to create an application that citizens would use frequently in their smartphones. This would be the means they would use to create collective data. This application could include public transportation, shops and so on and a point system that would encourage citizens to participate actively. For example, every time they give feedback on a trip by subway, they get a certain number of points that they can accumulate for discounts. This would encourage them to have the location on to monitor their travelling, and give opinions in the different parts of the city. These impressions could be set into different values such as air pollution, safety, green areas, etc. Besides collecting all this data, the citizens would also be able to give their own opinions, for example if they think that a cross is not safe, or if they realize a traffic light is not working. The latter would improve the response time of the services and improve the liveability of the city. However, the first one should be collected and revised and, if a certain area receives the same type of reviews, those citizens personally, and all the other users of the app, could be contacted to participate in brainstorming solutions and, depending on their capability for contribution, maybe partly in the design of the result. To conclude, my idea basically involves a smart phone application that would combine all the different aspects in which the citizens can contribute, and also would give certain benefits to them such as providing alternative routes, discounts or informing of the latest news and events. It is important that the citizens get a lot of advantages because that is the only way of reaching a really big amount of people. There is people who would help anyway but there are others that need a little "push" but that probably would end up enjoying it once they realize their opinions actually matter and are implemented into the design of their city. I am aware this is not a concrete CDS project but it could be the start of multiple programs and strategies beneficial for everyone in the city. Probably streets and parks would be the most affected by these changes, because they were originally created without any citizen participation. However, roads, public transportation and even buildings could be further developed with this method.
