Hi! This is Alvaro again, and in this opportunity, I leave you with an image that tells us both about identity and globalization, probably two words that are opposition to each other. This image (extracted from the website of a peruvian university, UNCP) shows an architecture out of context. This university is built in Huancayo, which is a cold zone in Peru, near Los Andes. Where traditional culture, materials and languages could have been used, architecture showed here is a representation of globalization. All of the building is covered in glass with just poor symbolism thrown here and there. This architecture, in my opinion, gives its back to peruvian identity and embraces what the capital, Lima, embraces, which is globalization. Glass, concrete, and the same style that Lima favours in its architecture, shows the influence of the capital over the provinces. Nonetheless, it should be accepted that peruvian architecture lacks a proper identity, and that all starts with its main city. Serious help is needed around here. PS.
