Stocks and Flows: Paris (France) 1 – people 2 – information 3 – energy A – People 1) Every day people travel around Paris. There are people who live in Paris, people who come to work there and others who come to visit. These streams of people are visible in the metro, buses or trams. The airports of Paris also take part in these human flows: flows arrive and depart from the airport where people are "stored". 2) Today, we must organize the flow of people in Paris to reduce the number of people and reduce pollution. It is indeed possible to make changes in public transport to make them more accessible, more practical and more present, so that people can prefer them rather than their cars. B – Information 1) The information in Paris is transmitted through different streams such as the Internet, television, radio, mail, books... Paris is an important point in the transit of information, a lot of information passes through Paris To go everywhere in France and in the world. 2) The flow of information is already well organized, but it could be even more efficient and faster. Since the number of inhabitants is very high in Paris, it would be necessary for example more power in the Internet servers to be able to satisfy all the consumers. If possible, some information that is not intended for all audiences should also be controlled. C – Energy 1) Energy is very important for the functioning of a city, especially for a metropolis like Paris. Paris energy is produced outside the city by nuclear or geothermal power plants, solar, wind or water infrastructures. The energy is then transported to Paris where it is consumed. These flows of energy are the most present and important flows in the city; without them Paris could not be the "City of Light" that we know. 2) The improvement of the energy flows requires an optimization of the network to limit losses. The improvement also involves a more controlled amount of distributed energy to avoid shortages or surpluses. It would also be possible to improve the quality of the energy distributed by increasing the share of production of renewable energies.
