1. My Top Five Criteria for liveability: Culture Economy Infrastructure Safety Transportation 2. Currently I live in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. The top five reasons that I live there are: The people I am surrounded by. The ability to do what you want when you want (recreation, entertainment) A fantastic transportation culture (bikes, trams, trains, etc.) The feeling of adventure as I am originally from Canada It is a beautiful city to walk around 3. Culture (80) Economy (75) Infrastructure (80) Safety (90) Transportation (100) General livability score = 90 4. If I were to do one thing as mayor is would be to curb the amount of tourism that happens in the middle of the city. Recently I read a report that Barcelona was putting in some regulations to reduce the amount of tourists to the city. I would like a similar thing to be done in the centre of Amsterdam. Nowadays, the centre of Amsterdam can be a jungle of tourists where the authenticity of the city is being lost. As you go out further out you feel more at home. I want this same feeling as you are going through the canals that gives Amsterdam its uniqueness. 5. If I were to move away from Amsterdam I would go to a couple locations. Seattle being one of them, London being another, and Hamburg being the third. These are based on the fact that there is excitement and life to the cities, great sports teams that I can cheer for, dynamic city centres with great infrastructure, the public transport systems are fantastic, and I have felt at home in each of those cities when I have visited them. In this order: Life and excitement Dynamic city centres Public transport systems, Feeling of “home” Great sports teams I can cheer for and join a community.
