The five most livable cities based on my own personal experience are: 1. Sydney, Australia 2. Hampi, India 3. London, England 4. Jaipur, India 5. Kathmandu, Nepal The five characteristics that make a city livable are: 1. Safety and security: This should be the primary factor of denoting livability. Ensuring the safety and security of the citizens should be the most important role of a city. This includes basic infrastructure such as food and water supply, law and order and healthcare services. 2. Proximity to Nature; Greenery, sustainability : The proximity of a city to a water body and the density of vegetation and green areas within the city is the second most important characteristic to ensure physical and psychological health of the city. 3. Cost of living : The city should be cheap to live in and have minimum disparity in the economic strata of the population. 4. Public Infrastructure: A well developed network of public infrastructure such as schools, public transport and amenities ensures a well balanced and rounded city. 5. Cultural diversity: The cultural and heritage diversity of a city can act as an incubator to create a rich and diverse fabric of a city, ensuring a variety of experiences and exposures. My own city, Jaipur fares relatively decently according to these characteristics: 1. Safety and security: The city is safe and secure, providing a decent network of hospitals and food and water infrastructure services. But the state of security infrastructure could be improved. 2. Proximity to Nature; Greenery, sustainability : The city has beautiful lakes and step wells that act as oasis for the city. Although measures could be taken to improve the rainwater catchment areas to fill up their water levels. 3. Cost of living : The cost of living is relatively cheap, and a decent standard of living can be ensured for as little as 800 USD per month. Although measures should be taken to alleviate unemployment and reduce economic disparity between different sections of the population. 4. Public Infrastructure: Although we have a proficient network of public transportation such as Metro Rail, City Buses and Taxis, along with a competent network on educational institutions. There is a drastic shortage of public parks and recreational spaces. 5. Cultural diversity: Being a tourism hot spot, the city is filled with a diverse range of people throughout the city and proudly boasts its own cultural heritage along side the multitude of cultures that visit the city.
