In the picture attached lies the illustration of the 2 typical routes that I take from home (which is currently Orekhovo hotel, located near Tsaritsyno park in the south of Moscow) to my University (which is situated in the central part of the city, 15 minutes walk from the Red Square). The first route I call the "rush route" (highlighted in yellow). I walk 250 m (3 minutes) from the hotel to the metro station Orekhovo, ride in the subway for half an hour (with 1 change) and walk 350 m (about 5 minutes) across the busy Myasnitskaya street to reach my destination. The second route is the "green" one, apparantly because I use the metro 5 minutes less and walk 10 minutes more down a beautiful Nikolskaya street in the heart of Moscow. The whole trip takes 5 minutes longer than the first one (43 compared to 38), so I cannot use this route if I am late, for instance. But I definitely prefer it in fine wheather and in case I do not need to hurry. Walking along a lovely Nikolskaya street makes me feel happier and more inspired than riding longer in the noisy and crowdy Moscow underground. Overall, social and environmental aspects are crucial to my personal sense of well-being, but usually I am pressed for time and have to take a less pleasant and more fast route to my University, which is the first one.
