My apartment is in a building where apartments have a single exposure. Mine is headed south. Built with concrete panels, and not much insulation, when it gets really hot (from June to september in my area), the building isn't livable without any help. So, even if it's not "building material" per se, my ventilator is part of the building, to make it livable, and thus i consider it as building material, because it compensates the flows of its construction. By not having taken in account the site (and not having build the building with a typology of aprtments that let the air flow between two points to cool it down), I had to buy this ventilator, which was manufactured in Asia.
