Photo was taken with location in Sembawang in northern part of Singapore. The house type was named the "Black-and-White" in the British colonial era for British naval officers. The materials of mainly wood, mud bricks and tiles were sourced locally in Singapore to construct the houses covering the whole plain surrounding Sembawang Shipyard which was used to be the British colonial naval base. Today the restoration and conservation of such "Black-and-White" houses is met with some difficulty as most building materials used local are steel and concrete imported from overseas, no more timber, brick and tile factories existed here. The contractors need to import from nearby South East Asia neighbouring countries as much as possible to contain the cost.
