2. Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? Sydney Urban Heat Island; According to the Centre for Science Education (UCAR), some cities are up to 5C warmer than surrounding areas. UCAR says cities have become hotter as plants and natural vegetation has been replaced by a concrete jungle of buildings and roads. My thoughts - Sydney is surrounded by a harbour which would reduce the impact of urban heat island. Coastal Sydney; much cooler, due to ocean/water, more vegetation, more open space 3.
