In Cairo, the main three stocks- in my opinion- are buildings, streets & buried infrastructure [electrical cables, water supply pipelines, drainage pipe lines]. These three city components almost never change, at least not within the past [5o] [perhaps more] years. Buildings rarely [unless there's a 100% certainty of collapse] get demolished. Streets rarely get closed off or over-taken. Buried infrastructure never gets changed [which is currently causing big problems]. The three main flows- in my opinion- are water, food & tourists. Water flows through the Nile River from the South [Upper Egypt] to the North [Lower Egypt]. Passing by Cairo, large volumes of water are pumped into water sanitization stations to be pumped through the city's water supply grid. Food is scarcely produced in Cairo. The city is more urban than it is rural. There's thus a massive daily in-flow of food products [raw & processed] from all around the country. Finally, tourists flow in & out of Cairo to visit various attractions & locations. The in-flow & out-flow is affected by tourism seasons as well as political & general stability. Improvements could be made in stocks by either improving the stock's quality or removing & replacing it with a stock of higher quality. For example, buildings of poor condition could be demolished to make streets wider, allowing for better traffic flow. Buried infrastructure could be assisted by carefully planned & easily maintainable infrastructure of higher quality then made redundant, placing the full demand on the new infrastructure. Improvements in flows could be made by making the most out of in-flows & raising out-flow quality. For example, more efficient water stations can help save water & reduce losses. Accommodating, organizing & managing food in-flow could help reduce traffic congestion & at the same time improve delivery & reduce losses. Tourist in-flow could be encouraged & made more frequent [or even continuous] by taking better care of attractions & sites. Making these locations more attractive and organizing regular events. This will increase the city's popularity & with it the in-flow of foreign currency.
