This photo was taken on the Canadian side of the border in Niagara Falls, Ontario. It depicts the Horseshoe falls in the background along with several major casinos/hotels. In the foreground you can see that I am standing under a cement ceiling with metal support beams. This structure was a designed walkway/line to queue up for entry to a boat tour at Niagara Falls. Because I live in a city that has an international border, I see more directly how globalized trade in construction happens on a daily basis. We can see international trucks carrying materials cross into the border both ways. Our city depends on Canada for construction materials, and they depend on ours, in order to help create structures that will not only be structurally sound around one of the 7 wonders of the world, but will also be safe and aesthetically pleasing for tourists. It also references the fact that, as demonstrated in the instructional video, cement and concrete are some of the most common building materials around the world.
