The most recent evaluation of the most livable cities in the world today are: 1 Vienna 2 Zurich 3 Auckland 4 Munich 5 Vancouver All of these cities have many common features such as, 1 They are all safe places to live, without high levels of crime or threat of attack from war or terrorism. 2 They have good health care systems. 3 They are also places of opportunity and easily accessible to the rest of the world which benefits both the inhabitants and businesses in the area. 4 Good levels of sustainability and recycling but this is a work in progress across the world and needs to be increased significantly in the next few years across all of our cities. 5 All have interesting architecture, either in the form of historical or high rise but always mixed with many places of leisure and social gathering areas such as parks and areas of recreation. My city of Glasgow is in western Europe where the majority of these cities are and is a well developed city if small in comparison to most of these cities. The city is a safe place to live with a low threat from terrorism but with normal levels of crime for a city of it's size. Our health care system is well established and the city has just recently opened a state of the art hospital incorporating new technology in both the building and the equipment used within it. We have two airports in the Glasgow area with good links to the rest of the world so it is a good choice for businesses to base themselves here and this in turn creates good job opportunities for the inhabitants. We have over the last few decades become more aware of our impact on the environment and are building more resilient buildings and recycling our waste more efficiently and also adopting more sustainable sources of energy throughout Scotland as a whole with increasing use of wind, solar, wave and biomass energy. The city has lots of interesting Georgian and Victorian architecture and with many modern sustainable buildings being built along the river front showing our architecture for the present day. These include buildings by Zaha Hadid and Norman Foster architects. We also have many Museums and places of interest and recreation such as parks, stadiums and theaters. Glasgow must keep building for a more sustainable future and maximize on what has already begun in the city in terms of recycling and using more sustainable energy resources. We as citizens of the city must also adopt more sustainable alliances within our homes and using electric cars instead of combustion engines. We must think about how we can contribute to making the human world a more natural and sustainable place. We must also continue to educate all of the people of the city and of the world about how to live within our environment without harming it and if we can then we must try to heal the damage already caused.
