Most important Boston Stocks and Flows: Water, Density, Energy, and Capital. The Boston water system is a stock of water originating in the Quabbin reservoir, which provides all the drinking water for the majority of the Boston MSA. This stock requires 5 years of process between rain falling on the reservoir and the end user at the faucet. The stock is critical to the city's existence. Future change would be rainfall or temperature that would impact reservoir levels. Density of people is a stock that can vary with many factors including employment and the large student population. Future change would be a change in employment opportunities would affect density. Energy is a stock and flow created with a blend of solar, wind, and nonrenewables like burning trash. Changes would be energy policies that would alter pricing and supply. Capital investment in city infrastructure and buildings. There is a huge influx of capital and development in the city at present. This does change dramatically based on city demand and propensity for growth. Future change would be increases in capital based on demand.
