1) Top Livability Criteria: 1. Transportation 2. Recreational Possibilities 3. Environment 4. Culture 5. Job Opportunities 2) I live in Portland, Oregon, USA because: 1. The scale and the streetscape are designed with bicyclists and pedestrians in mind 2. City codes protect existing vegetation and encourage green space 3. We have rivers, lakes, mountains, forests, waterfalls, beaches and snow mountains to enjoy within an hour and a half travel radius from the city center 4. Cultural diversity 5. The "odd/strange/unusual/unique" are welcome and encouraged 3) My place of residence fulfills my livability criteria about 75% because it's got access to public transportation, there's a park within one block from my apartment, and I have a small market across the street. I think it falls short on job opportunities (this zone is mostly residential and small commercial so my job opportunities are all in different areas within the city) and I don't have a bank nearby. My grocery store options are close but not walkable (besides the small market across the street). I would say as a city, Portland fulfills my needs 100%. 4) What would I change? If I was the mayor of Portland, I would do something to change the housing crisis. Our rent has been exponentially increasing for years now and it is driving a lot of people out of the city and into the suburbs. As a young professional, it's pretty hard for me to live where I live now and so far we have not set a cap on rent to protect tenants. Living in a highly "livable" neighborhood shouldn't be for the rich only. 5. If I was to move, I would move to Seattle, Washington, USA, Vancouver, British Columbia, or Zurich, Switzerland ( I only spent a week there but I enjoyed everything about it). 1) Zurich, Switzerland 1.
