1. Which are your top livability criteria? 1. Housing 2. Job opportunities 3. Safety 4. Infraestrutcture 5. Culture 2. Why do we live where we live? I live in Balneário Camboriú, SC, Brazil for 8 years. I chose this city to live by the job opportunities I had at that time, that was the main reason to choose this city to live. The environment was also a determining factor for staying in the city because the city sits on the coast and has a beautiful landscape that attracts millions of tourists throughout the year, especially in the summer. Another reason I continue in the city is for the infrastructure, which is constantly improving, with maintenance and basic services in operation, such as water, sewage, electricity, internet, streets in good conditions and with easy access. The housing, although expensive, has good options. Security is another important item in the city, which presents better indexes when compared to other cities in Brazil. 3. To what extend does your own place of residence fulfill your ideal livability criteria? In relation to the items that I consider more important, the classification of the city would be as follows, with grades from 1 to 100: 1. Housing: 60. The housing is one that could have better note if it were easier to reach the majority of the population, since the high cost to live in the city ends up including a very small portion of the people. Most of these people end up living in more remote places at a lower cost. 2. Job opportunities: 50. A few years ago this item would have a much higher rating, but in the last 2 years the country has been facing a major recession due to a political and economic crisis, making employment opportunities that were previously Many, would be very scarce these days. 3. safety: 70. This is still a city with low rates of violence compared to other cities in the region and the rest of the country. 4. Infrastructure: 70. The city has a high tax collection due to tourism and is constantly growing in a relatively small land area. Due to these factors, the government is constantly making improvements in the infrastructure of the city, improving streets, making clicks, etc. 5. culture: 40. The city of Balneário Camboriú has always had a very great focus on tourism only through natural landscapes, leaving culture in the background. Unfortunately, the culture of the immigrants who live in the region is being lost, and in addition, the incentive to culture is very low, with few museums, theaters and shows available to the population. According to the above assessments, the city of Balneário Camboriú would have 58 points considering its livability. 4. What would you change? Balneário Camboriú has a small land area, approximately 44 km2 and has about 124,000 inhabitants, being the second smallest city in the state and the 11th most populous (in the summer season the number of inhabitants reaches 1 million people). The biggest problem with this is traffic, where the car is highly valued and public transportation is almost forgotten. The traffic of vehicles is very intense and a public transport system would bring great benefits to the city. If I had the power to decide on these decisions in the city, I would work to improve public transportation and encourage the use of bicycles and walking, since the city is small and everything is very close. Reducing the number of vehicles would benefit the health of the population by reducing noise and pollution, as well as saving fuel. If the streets had more cycle lanes, more public walks and trees, people would be more encouraged to use these alternative means of transportation, improving the quality of life. 5. Why do we move? 1. Gramado: Located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, the city of Gramado is one of the best cities in the south of the country to live. First, it is a city with good economic development and good job opportunities, through tourism (lodging, food and attractions), growing construction and large factories (mainly furniture and clothing). Secondly, it is a place that has good housing options, with well-kept and planned homes and neighborhoods. Thirdly, the city takes care of the environment, preserving the existing natural landscapes and ensuring a very pleasant place to live and for leisure and tourism. Fourth, the city has good safety-related indexes. And Fifth, Gramado has a rich cultural life, preserving the traditions and also encouraging new cultures, through nationally known film and theater festivals. 2. Maringá: located in the state of Paraná, Brazil, is one of the cities most cited by the good indexes to live. It has a strong economy and, consequently, great job opportunities. In addition, the city has urban planning that makes it one of the most forested cities in the country (it is now a model of garden city), bringing low levels of pollution, ensuring the health of the inhabitants. Another important quality is in relation to security, since the city appears with one of the lowest crime rates of the country. Housing is a positive element in the city, which offers several possibilities, mainly for the division of the city into areas of work and housing, and the houses are close to financial centers and work. Education and culture are also very important factors for the city, which has good schools and guarantees access to education, as well as making accessible cultural festivals. 3. Curitiba: Capital of the state of Paraná, Brazil, Curitiba is considered a model city for having invested in various urban plans: transportation is an example for other cities in Brazil, because even in distant neighborhoods access to transportation is very efficient. Housing is also a plus in the city, where you can find good places to live in the commercial center or even in more residential neighborhoods. Being one of the largest and most populated cities in the country, it is also a city with many job opportunities. Despite being a great city, caring for the environment makes this a very appreciated city, since it has many parks and squares with beautiful landscapes and are also places of refuge and recreation of the population. The fifth benefit of the city is access to culture, as it has several museums, theaters and offers many attractions in that sense.
