The distance between my home to my work place is about 3.4km. Here are the modes of transportation available in my area. Combination of Walk and Bus (26 minutes): 2 minute walk from my home to the nearest bus stop. It will take me around 14 minute (7 stops) to the bus stop near my office. I usually don’t experience traffic since my workplace is at the outskirt of CBD area. From the bus stop I’ll just need another 4 minute walk to reach the office. This is my usual route since this is the most minimal walking distance needed for me to reach the office. Combination of Walk and MRT (22 minutes): 7 minute walk from my home to the nearest MRT station. Then I will be alighting after 2 stops (8 minutes). And another 7 minute walk from the MRT to my office. Although this is faster than my usual route (4 minutes difference), I still choose to take the bus route. I know walking is good to your health, but sometimes Singapore’s climate is not forgiving. Aside from that, I sweat a lot which makes me left feeling uncomfortable when I reach the office. However, this can be a good route option at night, going home since there’s lot of food establishment between the MRT and my home. By Taxi (approx. 9 minutes): This is the fastest and convenient way, but for practical reason it is not a wise option. By Walking (47 minutes): I have tried walking from office to work a few times but during at night. A portion of the walk is alongside a major road with few street lights but safe. The other half is along the five foot walk way of shophouses. Few people crowding the streets and walkways at times, due to numerous of establishments, hawkers/ food centre within the areas.
