Top 5 most liveable city that I have visited are: 1. Melbourne 2 Sydney 3 New York 4. Panama City 5. Fort-de-France, Martinique In my opinion, the five aspects that makes a city liveable are: great public transportation, great walking distance to diverse uses, great living conditions in terms of accommodation, finance, housing, family activities and spacious open green spaces, great infrastructure ( water, energy supply, health facilities, security and education), clean and stable environment (clean potable water, clean air clean working and living conditions). Unfortunately, in the city that I live in, Kingston Jamaica, there are some aspects in liveable cities that it lacks in. Our public transportation is quite limited and not up to standard, although we do have public buses, sometimes they are not clean, functioning and also do not adhere to the rules of the roads, which makes them unsafe for pedestrians. Taxi drivers are even worse, they do not obey the rules most of the time which makes them unsafe to drive in. We do not have functioning train system so we do have a heavy reliance on cars to transport people and other goods from one place to another. Recently our housing are becoming more sprawl, which results in unable to walk to basic uses such as markets and other community places, therefore we have to use cars more and more. In the city of Kingston, we do lack public spaces, especially green open spaces for families to use, so young children to not have a safe place to play. Our economy have been unpredictable for past ten years so it hasn't been on a steady improvement for a long time, which can have a major impact on other aspects of a liveable city. Our infrastructure has always been poor, from our street lights, our roads with potholes, our drainage system and our water supply, our infrastructure need a major upgrade in comparison to other developing cities in the world. Our city hasn't been structured properly in over 50 years, due to mas migration to upper part of Kingston and Saint Andrew, in fact the only part of Kingston that have a proper street grid layout is Downtown Kingston. The water and electricity supply is a major issue. It is a city which has a promising future growth due to attractive work culture and many top companies offering best jobs are located here. But it is up to developers and our mayor to make the city the possibility that it can be. And lastly, our approach to pollution is very poor. One of our major issues is waste management we have poor waste management. Our garbage trucks do not function at times, our only landfill is under pressure due to the heavy load of waste and we dont have a recycling program. Also we have a horrible approach towards waste which is burning garbage which leads to air pollution which cause our citizens to develop respiratory illnesses. Also we have a terrible habit of disposing waste in gullies which leads to our water supply causing water pollution, This issue needs serious help. The future of Kingston lies in the hands of proper political agendas of municipal authorities, ministers, architects, planners, researchers and citizens itself.
