Based on my experience, the top 4 most liveable cities that I came across are- 1 Trento, 2 Brussels, 3 Innsbruck, 4 Paris, 5 L’Aquila. I have not been in Australia, New Zealand and North America which seems to the best place to live, so I have paid attention on Europe cities. Five characteristic that makes the city most liveable are: 1. Access to nature and man-made services (healthcare public system, education…) 2. Connectivity (transportation system); 3. Low pollution; 4. Tolerance; 5. Tecnology; 6. Talent. A widespread availability of goods and services, effective infrastructures are key factors to make a city a desiderated city to live in. But I believe we need also tolerance (that means respects, open-mind people and policy-makers), talent and technologies. These 3 T called “3T approach” by Richard Florida are intangible elements but very important to make city attracting. I have also listed L’Aquila: before the earthquake is was a liveable city. Surrounded by national parks, it had good quality of environment, high level of culture heritage, vibrant university environment. The critical point was the connectivity system to go to Rome based on bus transportation system.
