1. Think and comment on an existing Citizen Design Science project in urban design and planning from your area or country. Unfortunately there is no such projects exists in Saudi Arabia. The decision-making is influenced by political leaders. However, the new city masterplans in Saudi Arabia are focusing more on the participatory process, in Jeddah city there were an open participation campaign in the malls and different public areas. There are also a good example i can think of when the city of Riyadh decided to involve the community in the naming of the metro lines through Twitter. 2. Think and comment on the following example: Habitats of a certain neighborhood don’t feel safe when they walk in their neighborhood in the evening and during the night. You are working for the local government and want to solve this problem through improvement of the public spaces. How would you start-up a Citizen Design Science project? Fore-sure starting a Citizen Design Science project would be the ideal step to address this problem, it can be done through resident participation, by setting up participatory campaigns in the public spaces of the neighborhood, and initiating a dialogue on social media to involve the community. 3. Imagine that you have set up a project wherein you would like to make use of Citizen Design Science. Which guidelines are important in creating your own Citizen Design Science project? - Engaging all groups of citizens in the participation. - Ensuring that is flexible and easy to use. - Full transparency of data and project process. - Providing quick results to motivate the citizens and to give them a feel of ownership.
