The five most livable cities based on my own experience and judgment: 1. Tel Aviv 2. Barcelona 3. San Francisco 4. Copenhagen 5. Berlin Five characteristics that make a city livable: 1. Affordable and attractive housing 2. Environmental qualities 3. Weather 4. Stable economy 5. Public transportation Status of San Francisco in terms of the five characteristics listed above: San Francisco has a lack of affordable housing and not sufficient public transportation in comparison to Western European cities. There are a few huge parks and many small neighborhood gardens and a beautiful waterfront to walk on. The weather is mild with a rainy season in the winter between November and March, and a moderate warm climate in the summer. Economically speaking, the city (or rather the state and the country) need to improve labor laws and medical care to ensure a stable economy. Propose how your city should/could be transformed in relation to these characteristics in order to be more sustainable. Urban zoning regulations need to be reformed in order to provide for fast affordable housing solutions. Renewable energies should be promoted on a larger scale. Minimum wages should be introduced as well as all wages should reflect the living costs in the city.
