In order to get to my workplace, I usually drive myself. It is approximately fifteen minutes away and my route covers the span of about three miles, and it is the fastest means by which to get there. Public transit in my city is atrocious, and so there is not a bus system or light rail that could take me there as an alternative. Similarly, if I were to walk, it would take me upwards of two hours to reach my destination, even with it only being a seven mile walk, due to the high level of traffic I would need to contend with as I travel. Because I am often at work either before or after dark, this would not be safe. The most viable alternative means of transport would be biking, as it would take me about forty minutes to travel the seven miles between home and work.
