In my routine to commute, I have three main route choices, through different modes of transportations. My work place is located in the core of my city, the old central district, where remains strong commercial activity and concentrate the destination of bus routes. The first route is travelling by bus, the only available mode of public collective transportation from my place to work. I don't need to walk to the bus stop as it is located in the front of my home. However, waiting time is a problem since the buses timetables are not reliable. Waiting times can varies from 10 to 30 minutes with some problem happens (which occurs constantly). Travel time in bus doesn't take long and the destination stop is close to my work place, it a short 3 minutes walking passing through a square. The travel cost is cheap, the bus fare costs around US$ 1,00, but the travel time is longer and service not reliable. Other mode I take to commute is the bicycle. Cycling is the best option for me, because makes me feel good, enjoy the city, and it is cheaper. Nonetheless, cycling in brazilian streets could be unsafe. There is no cycle lanes I could use to work, and there is a strong risk of being attacked by burglars. I don't take this mode if I have to take my laptop to work. Cycling in the morning is better because the weather is cooler, however in the afternoon temperatures are very high. For that reason I bought a folding bike, so I can switch between modes during the day. Improving urban vegetation could be a good solution for cycling in warm cities. I park my bike in a public cycle parking, that prevent thefts and offers toillet facilities, which is extremely useful after a bike ride. From the parking I have a short walk to my work, that is enjoyable because it is a livable route, full of shops and people. The last option is going to work by car. It is the most expensive one. Although it is the fastest choice, considers fuel cost, and parking (that costs US$4,00 a day). The worst part is the traffic, in some points, that is stressfull. Arriving there ypou need to pay a daily fee to park close to the workplace, or drive around to find a free empty parking space. Car is safer for the driver and more comfortable. However, increases air pollution and creates a huge demand of space for parking in the city centre.
