1. My top-5 criteria to measure livability of cities are: Environment Safety Education Transportation Housing 2. I live in Teresina, Brazil. The main reasons I live here is that (1) my family is currently living in this city, (2) good job opportunity, (3) housing and costs of living are affordable considering my incomes, (4) the city has good health care and (5) educational facilities. 3. Unfortunately, the city is far from fulfill my expectations of what a livable city would be. As the picture states, the public spaces have poor infrastructure and people don’t feel safe walking in those streets. The extreme high temperature climate contributes to decrease thermal comfort in the city. As although education, considering national parameters, is good, the poor and very poor people struggle with deprived housing and transportation. General Livability score: 200 Environment: 40 Safety: 30 Education: 60 Transportation:30 Housing: 40 4. As a mayor, my first measure to improve livability in my city I would invest in the quality of urban environment. The improvement of urban vegetation is a key for reducing temperature, and increase human comfort in the streets. Better and greener urban spaces make more livable and safer streets. Mixed-use patterns of use and occupation would be encouraged to produce more attractive paths and less dependency of private vehicles for day to day activities. 5. My top-3 cities to move are: Copenhagen: good environmental conditions, sustainable urban mobility, safety, climate and good recreation possibilities Sao Paulo: vibrant environment, plenty of cultural activities, good transportation in the city core, job opportunities and international connection London: good environmental conditions, transportation, safety, education and good recreation and cultural activities.
