Definition of livable city is very subjective. From all around the world, Vienna continues its reign in the top spot for overall quality of living, followed by Zurich (2), Auckland (3), and Munich (4). Vancouver at the 5th position is North America’ s highest ranking city, while Singapore is the highest ranking Asian city, holding 26th place. As per survey of livable cities India is not amongst top 100 cities but the question was asked to describe the cities based on our own experience and judgment So for me five top Indian livable cities are 1. Banglore 2. Mumbai 3. Pune 4. Hyderabad 5. Chennai My livability criteria 1. City should be on human scale 2. Safety and climate 3. Quality of life 4. Infrastructure 5. Culture. Is Jaipur Livable/ Sustainable? Jaipur is the first planned city of India in 18th century which was designed as per human dimensions. But contemporary development is missing that dimension. Climate of Jaipur city is hot dry. So rating is moderate as far as climate is concerned. To improve upon this we need to design urban form as per the climate of Jaipur. Safety and security: moderate Infrastructure: Good Quality of life: good Culture: excellent Particularly for Jaipur It is necessary to reiterate the importance of prioritizing citizen’s needs, resuscitating the city into a human scale that embraces inclusiveness and gives high-quality life through the use of high technology.
