This is a photo take in the city of Mount Pearl, which is just outside of St. John’s, Canada. In this photo we can see three different types of infrastructure. The first is electrical infrastructure as seen from the small electrical substation and overhead power lines. The second is the transportation infrastructure as seen from the street. The third is the water infrastructure as seen from the street drainage that leads to the storm sewer which keeps the streets clear and prevents flooding. All of this infrastructure plays together to create a livable space in the city. In the future, as cities grow and develop, even more infrastructure will be present, and its design will have a great impact on the sustainability and livability of the future cities.
